Maggie’s curiosity with the practice was sparked when she came across her mom’s “OM-Yoga in a Box” at the tender age of 14. What started out as mere flirtation, became a true love affair when she moved from her tiny town in Indiana to New York City. Pursuing a career as an actor/singer/dancer/musician, the practice of mindful breath and movement became as essential to her daily life as…toothpaste. In 2011, a friend encouraged Maggie to try out the Laughing Lotus studio. She knew immediately that if/when she ever wanted to get her certification, it would be through this studio. The freedom, the joy, the vibrant energy that exudes from Lotus, is unlike any other place. She now has completed 250 hrs of training with Lotus and is incredibly eager to do more! In her classes, Maggie aims to invite in a sense of playfulness, expansion and a great love and appreciation for all that is YOU!!! Endless amounts of gratitude to her teachers on and off the mat. –Namaste, namaste, namaste
The sacred practice of Yoga allows the practitioner to get to know themselves more deeply. That is exactly what happened to Giovanna when she stepped on to her mat. Being faced with experiences that taught her valuable lessons at a young age, she is able to walk through this life with compassion for herself and others without judgement. She is deeply rooted in living a life seeking balance, clarity and adventure all while exploring herself more passionately. By diving deep into her Yoga and meditation practice she has gotten to know herself on a deeper level and hopes to bring that experience to others. For her, the Yoga practice began as a physical journey but became more firmly grounded once she felt the spiritual aspects of the practice taking action. The release of emotion and movement of energy through her body allowed her to heal from all of the things that once brought her discontentment. Giovanna decided to become a Yoga teacher to be a conduit of healing for others after she took Victor Colletti’s New Years Day class and felt an immense desire to share the joy of the practice with others. She fell in love with Laughing Lotus for its sense of community that she had been yearning for since moving to Brooklyn. She strives to create a safe space for her students to feel all of their feelings and fall deeply in love with their blossoming soul.
Ali has always followed her passions: first, for dance, which led her from the ‘burbs of Connecticut to New York City at 16; then, for yoga, which eventually led her home to Laughing Lotus, where she discovered her next true loves, Dana Flynn, Jasmine Tarkeshi, Lotus Flow and Ayurveda. She did her teacher training at Lotus in 2003, and began teaching at Lotus the same year. Nine years later, with the encouragement of Dana Flynn, Ali created Laughing Lotus’ Ayurveda and Healing Program, acting as director and teacher, both at the 100 and 50-hour level certifications.
In addition to being one of the core teachers for Laughing Lotus’ acclaimed 200 hour Teacher Training, Ali has also been a guest teacher in other trainings, teaching workshops and retreats all over the world. She is continually inspired by how these practices bring people together and create community. In 2013, she was honored to lead the very first 200-hour yoga teacher training in the Sudan, where she also worked with therapists at refugee relief centers and in schools throughout Khartoum.
Ali writes Ayurveda columns for BreatheRepeat.com, alignyo.com, and mindbodygreen.com and is happy to be a Lululemon Ambassador. She believes deeply that the practices of yoga and Ayurveda can teach us to live our lives with integrity, balance, and grace, if we are willing to do the work. Julie first found yoga on a “yoga date” with a fellow dance friend. She thought to herself, “Yoga? Sure, why not. It will probably be good cross-training for dance.” She soon discovered that this practice would have a very deep effect on her life. Upon returning from one year of studying dance in Israel and diving back into her senior year of college, Julie began practicing yoga regularly. In the flux of such a drastic change of lifestyle from Israel to New York, Julie found that yoga helped to ground her in a way that dance did not. With this realization, she knew that yoga had become a major part of her life. After graduating college, Julie knew she wanted to embark on the journey to obtain her yoga certification so that she could have the resources to share this practice that had profoundly changed her life with others. She soon found a home at Laughing Lotus Yoga Center where she instantly fell in love with the fluid, dance-like sequencing and the philosophy of “moving like you” that Dana Trixie Flynn wholeheartedly encourages.
